The trip to Costa Rica ended up being a lot more rewarding than I thought it would be. I was nervous at first to leave my girlfriend and life at home behind for a completely new place and experience, but the nervousness was quickly replaced with a sense of reward and virtue. I not only was immersed in Spanish but completely immersed in a new culture in a completely new and different environment. I learned so much about Costa Rica and how it is different than the United States, in both good and bad ways. I learned not only about the history of Costa Rica but of Latin America in general. I learned about a huge array of new fruits, plants and foods that were produced in Costa Rica that I had never once learned of or seen in person. I learned a lot about myself too and my ability to handle new and different experiences. While I may be nervous or uncomfortable with something at first I know that I just need to go at it head first and with confidence and everything will turn out alright.

Overall the trip was completely worthwhile and exciting. Everyday there was a chance to go do and see something that we had never experienced before or known about. I not only met people that I will consider friends and family for life but also saw sights that I will never forget for the rest of my life either. I would describe this experience to others as a very well rounded experience that gives you a chance to do and see a lot of things that are amazing. The best part about the trip was that it made learning fun and interesting every day. Even though it felt like we were on vacation, we were still learning every day and opening our minds to new experiences. This trip isn’t for people who just want to focus on learning one thing, but rather for people who wanted to completely surround themselves with a completely different way of life than what you see and do back home in New York State. I would highly recommend the Costa Rica trip to anyone, no matter what your interests are.
