How to Plan for Long-term Travel via Fodor’s

“I just don’t have the time!” This, and financial concerns, are the two most common reasons why people don’t engage in travel. And to a certain extent, I can sympathize. Traveling can be very expensive, and time seems harder to come by as we get older. This is why we motivate young college students to study abroad while they have the chance. There will be few opportunities in life where a person can have time completely dedicated to experiencing the world, and can make the financial justification to do so. “There’s a time and a place for everything, and that place is college!”

But, for many of us, the college years are long gone and we find ourselves in the great long “afternoon” of our lives. Too young to retire, and too committed to life’s obligations to return to college full time. Family, bills, and other pressing needs simply get in the way.

However, for a growing number of people, recent economic or social changes have provided a new opportunity to us. This Fodor’s article highlights travel as the answer to certain major changes in our lives. Unemployment, divorce, loss, and other major changes gives us the opportunity to reflect upon ourselves. And travel is often cited as the best way to open one’s worldview and gain perspective on our place on this world.

Fodor’s gives us several resources on how to plan for and accomplish long term travel plans while in transitional phases in our lives. It’s never too late to get out and discover, or rediscover, the world that we live in. For many, the travel experience could add a silver lining to a job search by opening up avenues in places that we’re never considered before.

Any time could be the right time to get out! Check out the Fodor’s article before and the following lessons in LEAF to get started on your own adventure!
