Negation lets us say “no” to things in French! It also lets us express that things are NOT a certain way.

Ça ne fait rien. : It doesn’t matter. / No big deal. / It’s okay.

Ça ne me dit rien. : It doesn’t ring a bell. / It doesn’t sound familiar to me.

Ce n’est rien. : It’s nothing.

De rien. : You’re welcome.

Il n’y a pas de quoi. : You’re welcome. (formal)

Jamais de la vie! : Never! / Not a chance! / Not on your life! / No way! / Out of the question!

N’en pouvoir plus. : to be exhausted / to be fed up with / can’t take it anymore

N’importe. : It doesn’t matter. / It makes no difference. / Whatever. / Whichever.

N’importe comment. : It doesn’t matter how.

N’importe où. : It doesn’t matter where.

N’importe quand. : It doesn’t matter when.

N’importe qui. : It doesn’t matter who.

(Ni …) non plus. : Neither / Not either / Nor

Pas aujourd’hui. : Not today.

Pas du tout. : Not at all.

Pas encore. : Not yet.

Pas question! : No way! / No question! / Not a chance!

Pas maintenant. : Not now.

Pas trop. : Not too much. / Not so much. / Not really.

Personne ne (le) sait. : No one knows (about it).

Rien d’autre. : Nothing else.

Adapt: 

Il n’est pas encore là ni elle non plus.
He is not here yet and neither is she.

Je ferai la vaisselle mais pas maintenant.
I will do the dishes but not now.

Ces gosses me rendent folle! Je n’en peux plus!
These kids are driving me crazy! I can’t take it anymore!

She doesn’t like to dance? Me neither. (Neither do I.)
