Emerson ‘Reno’ Bondi is an academic force to be reckoned with. It was very hard to settle on one degree of study. After FLCC, Reno will be pursuing a bachelors and juris doctor to practice law. Traveling to France again was inevitable; upon a high school trip in 2011, Reno became an instant francophile and vowed never to leave (which was broken to avoid legal trouble). What will they gain from this trip? Just another visit to the homeland. Their interests include reading, photography, crafting, and writing about themselves in the third person (a practical skill used when asked for a pseudo-austere biography).

I have had dreams of studying abroad since my first semester in college, and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to participate in this program during my last semester at Finger Lakes Community College. I am interested in physical and environmental geography, as well as human and cultural geography. I know that having the chance to experience traveling in a foreign country and learning firsthand about a different culture will greatly benefit my education, cultural awareness, and geographical knowledge. In addition, I am very fond of art history, military history, and the history of western civilization in general. Having the opportunity to see some of the things I have read about in history textbooks (Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, the Normandy beaches, many pieces of art at the Louvre, etc.) with my own eyes is absolutely thrilling! Overall, I know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am very excited to embark on this journey.

As a single mom of two, going back to school to earn my degree and better my life, once I heard about the study abroad to France opportunity you can imagine I jumped on it like white on rice.  I have dreamed of going to France ever since I was a child, seeing the Eiffel tower and eating the best chocolate croissant of my life with a oui oui! So when the opportunity presented itself, why not jump at it? I mean you only live once right? Never in a million years did I think I would ever travel outside the USA to such a beautiful artistic country as France, and fulfill my childhood dream at the age of 33, I am about to do just that. I am taking this chance to not only learn as much as I can about another culture outside of American, but also to share what I learn with my children, and apply these values and nuggets of wisdom and growth with those around me on a daily setting. Molding me into better me, and ultimately add a accomplishment to my life list, while adding some spice to my resume. Looking forward to what may come …

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to travel but could never quite get that first step out the door. For the first time in my life I will be leaving the United States and seeing the world through my own two eyes, not from behind a camera lens or through an LCD screen. I have always loved the French way of life, their culture and history – I want to enjoy every second of every experience that appears in front of me and immerse myself in it to the best of my ability. I am extremely grateful to be here traveling internationally for the first time with my fellow classmates.

I have never traveled abroad. This wonderful opportunity presented itself to me last semester. It didn’t take me long to realize that I had to jump at this opportunity. Studying abroad, especially in France, will enable me to learn first hand about the culture and history of this country. I am a student in the culinary arts program and much of the terminology and techniques are of French origin. I love what I do, and to be able to study in the country where some of the most influential people in culinary history were from, is a once in a lifetime chance. Not only will this help build character, it will also help me to achieve my long term goals as a chef.

Traveling is very special to me and everyone should have the opportunity to experience it. It has always been a priority to me to travel the world while I am in college before I settle down. I am still young and want to have as many experiences as I possibly can while I can. I am definitely not one to take life for granted and to me, this is an opportunity to grab while you can. I am so grateful to have this once in a lifetime chance to participate in the study abroad program at Finger Lakes Community College. I have a chance to visit a foreign country that most people can only dream of seeing. I’m really excited to explore the culture and lifestyle of the French people for myself instead of just reading about it out of a textbook in a classroom setting. I am a hands on learner and it is way more exciting to see the country than to just see pictures someone else took. I am still not able to wrap my head around the fact that I am traveling internationally and I’m so thankful I get to share this experience with my classmates. This is something I will always remember for the rest of my life.
