- Body parts identify the different parts of the human anatomy.
- Identify and name body parts in medical, professional, and daily life.

No matter the culture, we all have hands, feet, arms, and legs! Being able to discuss body parts can help you describe people and talk to doctors and nurses if you’re injured! And if you’re a medical professional, you will be able to correctly diagnose and treat your patients!
Here are the body parts that are on the outside of the body. Be sure to check out the lesson on the internal organs as well!
un bras : arm
Je porte mes livres avec les bras.
I carry my books with my arms.
un corps : body
Il prends soin de son corps.
He takes care of his body.
un coude : elbow
Il s’est cassé le coude.
He broke his elbow.
un doigt : finger
Je me suis fait du mal au doigt.
I hurt my finger.
un dos : back
Elle s’est fait mal au dos quand elle est tombée.
She hurt her back when she fell.
une épaule : shoulder
Atlas a les grandes épaules.
Atlas has big shoulders.
un estomac : stomach
J’ai mal à l’estomac.
I have a stomach ache.
une main : hand
La main a cinq doigts.
The hand has five fingers.
un nombril : navel / belly button
Tu as le nombril rentré ou ressorti?
Is your (informal) belly button an innie or an outie?
un ongle : fingernail / toenail

la peau : skin
Ils ont la peau qui pèle à cause de trop de soleil.
Their skin is peeling because of too much sun.
les poignées d’amour (fem.) : love handles
Je voudrais perdre ces poignées d’amour!
I would like to lose these love handles!
un poignet : wrist
Elle ne peut pas plier le poignet.
She cannot bend her wrist.
la poitrine : chest
J’ai mal à la poitrine.
I have pain in my chest. / My chest hurts.
un pouce : thumb
Elle s’est cassé le pouce en claquant la portière dessus.
She broke her thumb by shutting the car door on it.
une taille : waist
L’eau dans la piscine est à hauteur de taille.
The water in the pool is waist-high.
une tête : head
J’ai mal à la tête.
I have a headache. / My head hurts.
un ventre : belly
Il a mal au ventre parce qu’il a trop mangé.
He has a belly ache because he ate too much.
