The school was different from what I had experienced in the United States. The classroom was smaller and with there being only six of us on the trip the class was very small. The teacher we had was very nice and she was very helpful. One the first day she told us that when she was going to be teaching is she was going to be talking in Spanish and only using English if we did not understand what she had said in Spanish. This helped a lot with understanding Spanish when it is being spoken. She would also use the white board in the classroom to teach us new information. One thing that I really liked about being in the class that the teacher used was the fact she used songs to help with the pronunciation of words along with the meaning of the words being spoken. Throughout our time in the classroom we listened and sang six songs. Each time we got a new song we would have to listen to the song a few times to fill in the blanks on a worksheet. The worksheets she gave us had the songs on them with certain words missing that we had to fill in by listening to the different songs that she had listening to. After we had listened to the songs and filled on all the missing words we would sing the songs a few times to make sure that we were pronouncing the words in the song the correct way.

Another thing that we had to do which helped up with the pronunciation of the different words as well the meaning is the fact that the teacher made us talk in Spanish we could not speak in English. When we answered a question is had to be in Spanish. We would also do some exercises in which we would be given a topic and we would have to sit in front of the classroom and talk about the topic given to us by the teacher. This helped us communicate as well. Because she would also ask us questions about the topic given to us that we had to answer back to her or to our classmates. Our teacher really help us out with our Spanish. I felt that after the two weeks of being on Costa Rica, while we were not in class every day, we did learn a lot from the teacher and all the other people that worked at the school.
