Packing for the Costa Rica was tough because I was not sure really what clothes I would need and what I would not need. I wanted to have clothes for whatever situation I may face while in Costa Rica but I also didn’t want to over pack. I felt that over-packing was better than being stuck under prepared for the coming weeks ahead in Costa Rica. Traveling around Costa Rica was much easier than expected. Upon arriving in Costa Rica we made it through customs rather easily and did not have to wait more than thirty minutes to make it through customs and security. It did not take long to get to our host family’s home from the airport. My initial thoughts were I was surprised to see all the vehicles driving around Costa Rica as I thought there would be less.

No matter where you travel to in Costa Rica it does not take that long to get there, compared to the massive expanse of the United States. Winding mountain roads and obsolete dirt and rock roads hampered and slowed down our treks sometimes, but were never a major problem or discomfort. Traveling in taxis and busses was not any different from using taxis or busses in the United States. I enjoyed walking the most because it allowed me to examine and think about my surroundings much more than driving. Towards the end of the trip I found myself walking from Alajuela to my host family’s home much more often than taking a taxi there. I think that traveling provides you with a wide variety of skills that can help prepare you for a future career. Traveling allows you to adapt to unforeseen and unknown situations and allows you to think on your feet and be prepared for anything. Traveling can also put you in situations you are uncomfortable with or unused to and allows you to think outside the box and get more experience with situations you may face in the workplace or in life in general. It’s good to expose yourself to new culture and people, as it allows you to develop a better sense of the world and what life can be like outside of your natural habitat. Lastly, travel allows you to build a stronger sense of interdependence and confidence in yourself.
