In Spanish, adjectives MUST match the noun they are describing in NUMBER (singular/plural) and GENDER (masculine/feminine)

However … some adjectives (ending in [-ista], [-e], or [-l]) don’t switch out the [-a] and [-o] for masculine/feminine. Be careful!

nouns ending in [-o] or [-a] :
These adjectives will change endings depending on number and gender!

altoaltos : (tall – masc./mix)
altaaltas : (tall – fem.)

bajobajos : (short – masc./mix)
bajabajas : (short – fem.)

delgadodelgados : (skinny – masc./mix)
delgadadelgadas : (skinny – fem.)

gordogordos : (fat – masc./mix)
gordagordas : (fat – fem.)

nouns ending in [-ista] :
These adjectives will NOT change gender!

optimista (masc. and fem.)
optimistas (masc. and fem.)
(optimist/s)

pesimista (masc. and fem.)
pesimistas (masc. and fem.)
(pessimist/s)

nouns ending in [-e] :
These adjectives will NOT change gender!

interesante (masc. and fem.)
interesantes (masc. and fem.)

nouns ending in [-or] :
These adjectives will change endings depending on number and gender!

trabajador – trabajadora
trabajadores – trabajadoras

conservador – conservadora

(conservative)

nouns ending in all other consonants :
These adjectives will NOT change gender!
